June 16, 2017
Dear Pioneer Elementary Families,
The 2016/2017 school year has been quite full with successes, fun times, challenges and hard work. Together we have grown and shared experiences that cause me to smile.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Pioneer teachers for the terrific job they have done in developing meaningful learning activities and the support they have provided to our students. In addition, we have a wonderful support staff that make sure our school runs smoothly from the start of the year to the very end. Finally, our secretarial staff’s contributions cannot be understated. They are the best at what they do, and if it were not for them so much would not be done.

Special thanks to our parents who have contributed in ways small, large, and unimaginable! Thank you for sharing your children with us and your partnership in learning.

Next year, Pioneer will see several changes to the staff. I am excited to share that a counselor will join the Pioneer family. Cathy Westemann comes to us from Alaska with a varied background that will serve Pioneer students well. A number of our teaching staff accepted teaching positions that allowed them to be closer to family. As a result, I would like to introduce you to new staff members:

• Megan Meulman Grade 1 Comes from a private school and student
taught at Pioneer last fall
• Jennifer Bunney Grade 2 Taught at Monument and is looking
forward to working with younger students
• Alyssa Buffingotn Grade 2 Comes to Pioneer from CWU
• Jaycee Boultinghouse Grade 2 Comes to Pioneer from CWU

Each of these teachers are busy planning to greet your children in August. They have scouted out their room assignments, taken curriculum home to plan and are collaborating with existing staff. Finally, I share with you that I have elected to leave Pioneer Elementary. While your children have touched my heart, the distance from family has been an unanticipated hardship. The Quincy School District will move forward to find a replacement in the weeks ahead.
The end of each school year brings a touch of sadness for some and smiles of anticipation for others. In leaving Pioneer, I will forever remember the parting words of a student: “I am going to miss you Mrs. Hopkins.” I thank you all for the privilege of serving your children.
With Gratitude,

Ellen Hopkins
